Private wireless solutions continue to be a valuable component of a business’ full technology stack, addressing critical connectivity challenges.

As 2024 continues to run full steam ahead, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on 2023. The developments within the private cellular industry and learnings gained from the past year demonstrate how private wireless solutions continue to be a valuable component of a business’ full technology stack, addressing critical connectivity challenges and enabling mission-critical use cases.

Learning 1: Private wireless networks are a key part of connectivity solutions for improved reliability, better coverage and increased security for businesses of all sizes.

Cox Private Networks commissioned a white paper on private networks in partnership with STL Partners, surveyed over 200+ small, medium, and large sized businesses, across verticals, to find out their considerations when thinking about private cellular:

  • 40% of businesses cite network coverage and availability as their main current challenge with their connectivity solutions.
  • Top private network use cases businesses sought to enable included real-time data analysis, collaboration, AR/VR, and expanding network coverage.
  • Although technical considerations posed a significant barrier for businesses, 30% of them identified Communication Service Providers (CSPs) as their preferred and trusted suppliers for private networks.
  • 60% of surveyed businesses expressed a preference for a single connectivity provider for all their future connectivity solutions, encompassing private networks as well.

Learning 2: Beyond CBRS and private cellular, utilizing a broad set of wireless technologies (from low band IoT to CBRS to mmWave to spectrum in-between), allows us to provide a tailored mix of technologies to pair the right technology to the right use case.

We have a deep toolbox of network solutions and understand no one solution will cover all use cases and pain points. Because we pair the right use case with the appropriate technology and scale, customers can receive a substantial improvement in ROI.

For example, utilizing high-band spectrum such as 60 GHz or “terragraph” can enable connected environments to power smart city solutions and applications, for use cases requiring high-capacity upload and download speeds such as security camera streaming. This “wireless fiber” spectrum is also advantageous to utilize when tearing up infrastructure would be a concern, whether that’s from cost or when trenching fiber may not be an option

Check out these solutions that utilize private network technology to power video cameras and real-time data analytics to improve safety and security and that set the foundation for even more smart city applications in the future:

Learning 3: Private wireless technology enables a cost-effective, easy-to-deploy solution for improving in-building public cellular for businesses of all sizes.

The introduction of CBRS-based MOCN (Multi-Operator Core Network) Neutral Host Public Cellular is a gamechanger for these enterprises by:
